Angers v. Lens
Quickly…
I’ve got a bet for tonight in the French Ligue 2…it’s their second division soccer league, I guess. Whatever it is, I know this much: you can bet on it. Game starts at 8:30 here, so 3:30 east coast time, and it’s between Angers and Lens (yeah, I don’t know either). I’m planning on going out to the stadium this evening to watch and wanted to give the heads up so anyone interested can check it out and root for or against me, depending on your affinity for schadenfruede (it’s streaming online at a couple different sites if you google it). I’m taking Angers seeing as they’re the home team–it’s always more fun to get pumped up with the home crowd. At the moment I have a bookie here lined up thanks to my new rule in life–whenever you’re looking for something slightly illegal, ask a cabbie. I’ll tell you that story later when I have more time. I have to meet him in a few, but if that falls through I have a backup plan via online.
I’ll get into more Paris details when I have a chance but briefly, the main reason I’m here is because of this little book:
I found it in the aforementioned chest with the passports and other stuff of my father’s. Written inside, are all the various places he would go to when in Paris. He never worked here, but apparently prior to meeting my mother he came here fairly often (at least often enough to have a book). Inside it are clubs, caberets, restuarants, perfume stores, and other places around town, including one with the notation, “onion soup…after a rough night”.Â
Anyway, I’ve researched a number of the places, and it being Paris, many of them are still in business. So here’s the plan…if I win the bet, then tomorrow I spend the day/night going from one of these spots to another, living it up in style. If I lose, I’ll check them out, but nothing more…I’ll be like that kid with his nose pressed to the window outside a candy store. You can look, but ya can’t touch, son.
I have to be at the airport at 4:00 AMÂ the following morning, so if all goes well with the bet, I may be in need of that onion soup myself.
(BTW…The last post was only up for a few hours before I uploaded this one, so if you haven’t caught the Muay Thai one, check out Post #25)
